“The Best Test” by Jeff Moss
Well, it’s hard to believe May is just around the corner and we are finishing up our year so quickly. We had to say goodbye to our 2 student teachers this week. We wish Mr. Merheb and Miss McConnell good luck and best wishes in their teaching careers!
As the nice weather approaches it is important for children to have indoor/outdoor shoes. Our playground is muddy and bringing in mud creates slip, trip and fall hazards as well as no one wants a muddy behind after sitting on the carpet in a pile of mud!
We have revised our school of conduct. Please review it with your child and if there are any questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the school. I attached it in a previous post.
Key Concepts for the month of May include:
Literacy we will begin our unit on poetry, we will read and eventually write and publish our own poetry books.
Math we will be studying patterns, both in geometry as well as in multiplication and division and finding how these patterns help us multiply and divide bigger numbers.
Social Studies we will be doing 2 inquiry units. The grade 4’s will be looking at early Civilizations and discovering how they are similar and different than ours today as well as looking at how early civilizations helped us develop. Grade 5’s will examine the early civilization of Canada and the influence the First Nations/Metis and Inuit played in shaping our terrific country.
As always a device is recommended during our inquiry periods to help the students’ research. We have a limited amount of devices children can use at the school.
May 10 is a special day as its CUPCAKE DAY! Students will spend the morning learning all about cupcakes and even decorating them with 4MB. A guest will be here to help. HMMM, I wonder who in 4MB and Mrs. den Ouden have in common that could be coming in? We will have to wait and see!
Again, thank you for all you do to make your chiild’s day at a school a great one. I enjoy teaching and learning from and with your child everyday. If at anytime you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school. I will return your call as soon as possible.
Have a terrific May,
I have attached our school’s updated Code of Conduct that we discussed in class. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.
Here’s a website with a few games to practice what we are learning about fractions at home. We can’t wait to hear about all the fun you’ve had!
See you tomorrow!
Mrs. dO and Mr. Merheb
